I’m doubling down on Kliavkoff being a bad hire and being underwhelmed with the media deal and expansion.

A Kliavkoff flop certainly seems like a possibility at this point ... if the media deal is competitive (but belated) I'm willing to continue to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm not sure that's fair. He walked into a very bad situation. I don't know how anyone could have known what the Southern California schools would do, and there are no good options for him to fix it. To me (my guess), it seemed like he tried to expand and work that into the media deal, but the media partners said they did not add enough to the conference, so they go booted. Selling ice to eskimos only happens if the eskimos happen to be really dumb. Media groups are under real pressure to make profits, so there are no dumb media partners out there right now.

He certainly got blindsided but the handling of PR alone is a huge red flag. Messing with the divisions last year was a bad idea too in my opinion. Best refs leaving the conference is another red flag.

Strong leaders matter in tough times and I’m not convinced he is one.

Time will tell.

Getting a deal done that’s better than Big12 is critical, with or without expansion.

Him changing the conference alignment before the season last year greatly contributed to Huskies not winning the conference.

Kinda silly to hold that against him. Divisions are inherently arbitrary. New format at least attempts to pair the two most deserving teams. Last year just got weird with the three-way tie.

Will there be any polemic farting or screaming when an LA school takes the stage?

Terry Dell's avatar

I think the media should just sit there in awkward silence when Chip & Lincoln are on the stage. Zero engagement for the turncoats

Will you feel the same way if/when UW joins the Big Ten?

Terry Dell's avatar

Sure. Why would I care how the media treats UW after UW broke up with them?

The humor of my recommendation isn’t that it would hurt Chip or Lincoln, it would be the pettiness of the act that is funny

I kinda tend to think the big problem for UW was that in both losses we were playing 3rd and 4th string cornerbacks against 1st string wide receivers. Call me crazy though... The defense wasn't great but it was passable in most games.

--From the "often wrong, never in doubt" department: Sanders will be a disaster. He'll never recover from a season featuring players who are still introducing themselves to each other at the first kickoff.

--I'm rooting for Troy Taylor. I wrote and produced a TV story about him when he emerged as the QB at Cal. Very nice kid. An irrelevant but interesting note: The reporter who presented my story on-camera was Kristine Hanson, a former Playboy centerfold. She was also nice. :)

WSU conundrum: One of the most passionate fan bases in the PAC12, but (apparently) lagging on the NIL front? Go figure.

Westhill Mustangs's avatar

If only Coug license plates and lighting up the Space Needle could translate to NIL support and fans filling the Pac-12's smallest stadium

Sanders is too chicken to show up and or thinks too highly of himself. Happens to schedule a routine procedure when this is going on...ya right.

Ask Deboer what he's going to do to battle the NIL and recruiting. Obviously 11-2 season isn't helping.

You are the worst fan around Jerry. Good lord
