Due to an editing error (my own, of course), Gaard Memmelaar was left off the original version. D'oh. It's fixed now.

So you’re saying we’ll have a team! In all seriousness, this is actually slowly starting to look ok. Dline and Oline depth will certainly be a work in progress…hopefully some of the highly ranked guys who have waited their turn pan out and take that next step this year (Bandes, Wyrch, Pressley, etc)

Will Rogers is a great QB, but if you want to really feel good about that position, go look at tape of Demond Williams, an incoming freshman we pilfered from Arizona. He's only 5'9" but his talent makes that irrelevant. He's going to drive the Big 10 crazy after Rogers departs. Extremely elusive, a rocket arm he has under complete control, and a mature personality. Given Fisch's success with Noah Fifita, another short QB, I can't wait for 2025.

RB: Cam Davis, Jonah Coleman, Tybo Rogers. A talented threesome. OL: Lots of talent on hand. WR: Lots of talent on hand. TE: Josh Cuevas very talented. We'll miss Westover's blocking at the point of attack. DL: A sluggish group. Sebastian Valdez the exception. Edge: Lots of talent. Linebacker: Carson Bruener, our best, fastest, most athletic, instinctive and productive LB over the past couple of years, will finally start. I still want to know who decided he deserved to be a backup. CB and Safety: Would love to see Ephesians Prysock and Tristan Dunn, both 6'4," on the field together. Dunn hits the way we thought Asa Turner was going to hit.

Can’t say I agree there is a lot of talent in hand at O line. Hope I’m wrong. There is a reason why an app derailed zed freshman was able to pass up so many players and be one a starter at guard and then center.

The portal may improve or diminish this list, but this is a talented group of offensive linemen: Zach Henning (6'5 292), Landen Hatchett (6'2 310), Drew Azzopardi (6'7 315), Sam Peacock (6'6 296), Gaard Memmelaar (6'4 299), Elisha Jackett (6'7 259), and Paki Finau (6'5 253). And don't forget, they were all recruited by Scott Huff, a great evaluator.

Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot to like about the new staff and I think they are doing a great job recruiting given the position they were put in. I am still really concerned about the the O line. Sure they have size, but do they have top end D1 talent? Coming out of high school none of them were highly recruited with the exception of Jacket. If I recall we were the first bay P5 offer for a lot of them, we’ll see.

Again I hope I’m wrong, right now it’s my only big concern. I think we were just in a tough spot and, unfortunately the line wasn’t a huge component in my opinion

Looking at the view from here in early February my overall take is that the 2024 Huskies are likely to be about a .500 team - honestly my estimate would be lower if I wasn't as confident as I am in this new staff. I just don't see us holding up well against good teams, and I don't believe there is enough time left to fill holes with quality starters. I can see the potential for 9+ wins in 2025, and hopefully a return to the top 10 after that.

This is a true rebuild. As Jerry pointed out, the roster currently has very few sophomores & juniors - just a bunch of seniors & freshmen. It's not out of the question that a freshman starter can make an impact, but you can't go far when so many of your starters and depth are that young.

I would be happy to be wrong, but I don't feel depressed if it plays out this way. All I want is for Fisch & co. to stick around and get the job done - rebuild it the right way. However long it takes, it should be interesting to be along for the ride.

They're hard to find, but we desperately need a quick, violent defensive tackle to play next to Sebastian Valdez. We've got big, strong guys playing with good technique, but they're not quick enough to be disruptive.

It's hard to get a read on Klemm. He was highly rated, but we haven't seen him in action against D1 competition. He seemed to be on track to get early playing time at K-State before transferring here and now would seem to figure prominently in the plans of the new staff. Maybe he is hoping to get an NIL upgrade.

Jalen Klemm looks like a good athlete on tape, but why hasn't he grown? He went to K-State at 6'5 272. After a year in their weight program he gained one pound and came to UW at 6'5 273. And now, as he approaches his third year, he's at 281. From high school to now, he's only put on nine pounds. There may be a good explanation for that, but it seems odd.

6 or 7 wins would be my guess too.

I'm getting excited about Jedd Fisch's recruiting chops. He just got a commitment from Jake Flores (6'6 280), a designer athlete at OT with light feet and fantastic movement. A 2025 recruit, he reportedly had offers from Michigan, Penn State, USC, Florida State, Oregon and other major programs. Fisch also signed DT Bryce Butler, a 6'5 295 D-lineman out of Garden City Junior College with a lot of tools. It's premature to say this, but it looks like Fisch is a much better recruiter that that Alabama guy. :)

Experienced O linemen are at a huge premium in the transfer portal. Losing all 3 was painful. I sure hope we get lucky after spring training. Not anything to speak of currently in the portal that could start for us. We can possibly use tackles like Huff did, but the guys available for that are very inexperienced.

We could use one more experienced player at each position beyond O line, but so far Fisch is doing a decent job of creating a roster from the previous decimation.

I saw a report that the staff should be complete after this weekend. That should be very helpful for recruiting. I am going to miss Grubb and Shephard next season to some extent, but maybe Fisch’s staff will diminish that, and maybe the Seahawks will help me with that.

Fisch said on Brock and Salk that he hopes to have the coaches set up by Monday.

Things are looking up! 9+ wins next year as long as we get O-line additions.

Ponderosajim's avatar

That’s a big if. Most likely there are not enough impact linemen left. And if so, 6-7 wins. Most likely f what stayed were pretty hectare for r freshman. You’ll be lucky enough f one of them is above average BIG lineman next year

Steve Maggi's avatar

Disagree completely. 9 wins very possible!

QB I think we need 1 more at least a a walk on

RB I like the ones we have though think Adams leaves

OL like what we have not totally inexperienced. Don't get Klemm..waited over 2 week before going to portal. Wonder if they told him he wasn't in the plan though for depth that doesn't make sense either.

WR a lot of good players but not a ton of experience. Boston will be huge.

TE like TEs but ya could use 1 or 2 more.

DL need a few more. Having both Parkers healthy would be bug.

EDGE looking for big years from Holtzclaw and Heims bot got good experience last year and hopefully ncaa give Durfee another year back.

Stupidnapp doesn't let you edit

LB it's odd either seniors or freshmen. Nothing in between. Need a couple more and don't see how Fowler isn't on scholarship. Kid has been here 5 years and deserves it.

CB I like who we have a lot of talent just need experience.

Safety not hurt Turner is gone. He was only ok. Have like corners good young talent. Just announced on Softy show Vincent Nunley is staying so that's huge.

Special great Grady is staying. He could be an all time great Husky kicker.

I know this is scholarship players but what about the walk on specials like Mccallister. Are they staying?

Any word on uw going after any O- or D-line transfers from Boston college after their coach just left to the packers?
