I know that it's not an "apples to apples" comparison, but this truly does not make sense when considering a good friend of mine who was on a basketball scholarship at UW during the Hopkins years for three seasons. He contributed a little bit here and there for two years and came off the bench for some decent playing time his final year in the program, but nothing, NOTHING like BBK and Gaskin. Yet he got notification he's receiving a check for $160,000.

After reading this article it's clear why BBK and others would be feeling such frustration. It clearly makes no sense.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel the UW education and paid room and board never seems to be added to these discussions. Like what is that worth? I graduated in 1973 so I realize my thinking might be a little old school. However, I need to add in I played for the UW Rugby Club. We paid for our PAC 10 travel ourselves. We paid for our own uniforms except for the UW jersey which was usually in tatters. We also had to pay for our food and budget for the traditional Rugby drink-ups after each game. At Oregon State Rugby was a lettering sport and each Spring their Football players were allowed to play against us. Sounds bleak right? Back then, there was no national Rugby playoff, instead we had a National Tournament played in Monterey CA. In 1970, after paying to drive to Monterey, and sleeping on the playing fields at night, we took 5th place against over 30 teams. We won the PAC 10 North, three out of my 4 years. Oh, and we never lost to the Ducks or Cougs while self-financing it all and I wouldn't trade any of it.
