Humbled Duck fan offering much deserved props to the mighty Washington Huskies. Oregon is good - very good - and Washington is better. Full stop. Wishing the Dawgs all the best against future conference foe Michigan in Pasadena and Georgia in the Natty. I for one will not bet against this team. They legit good.

Believe we've discovered the only PNW creature more scarce than Bigfoot.

A likeable Duck fan 😉

The way I put it to one of my duck friends last night was Oregon may very well be one of the top 4 teams, but they had two chances against who had to be one of the top 3 and lost both, you don’t get two mulligans it someone else’s turn now.

I missed this entire post yesterday somehow. But I told you I'd see you here either way, and you showed up. Well shown, my frenemy. I won't presume to know whether you are hurting like I would be in your shoes - the only thing worse than losing the championship is losing to your archrival. But I wish you much comfort in the days ahead. For your sake I hope the chatter I'm hearing is wrong about some prominent Duck players not wanting to play in your NY6 bowl game. It'd be a shame to not get to see this great team shine one more time.

Christian, another great recap. Thanks for taking us along on this journey all year with this team. Your writing has been National Championship worthy like this team. Go Dawgs!

Boy, does it feel good to read this article!! What a season to start this journey of independent journalism, Christian! I feel like we've been in this together, every step of the way. I didn't think it possible, but your writing helps me feel even more connected to this team.

No matter how it all ends, I'm going to cherish this UW team as one of my favorites of all time. Let's see what they can do in January. GO DAWGS!!! 💜💛

Christian, this is why I subscribe. There are nuggets in here -- Dannen’s cigar, Ulofoshio sleeping at the facility, Muhammad getting excited about Marcus Peters -- that only come from traveling with the team. Not only is your access and commitment superb, the writing is befitting of an epic prizefight. Thanks for your work...and see you in Pasadena!

This ...

"Maybe that’s what makes it the very most satisfying win in their history: it would have been perhaps the most devastating game to lose."

Your uncle would be proud, both of the Dawgs and you. Well done, Christian. Well done.

Our Dawgs are battle tested, hungry, and ready for more. Kalen Deboer really put it best, they are built for this, and have shown it time and again. Go Dawgs.

Penix was great. DJ was great. Polk and McMillan were great.

But the lines won that game. Absolutely incredible on both sides. The o-line in particular dominated in a way that was hard to imagine.

Expand full comment

This is the truth. Other than the one bad series in the third quarter, our Oline just dominated. One of the best Oline performances in a huge game I’ve ever witnessed from a UW team. The run blocking and pass protection were exceptional against a very talented UO front seven. Penix owes those bodyguard/road graders some nice Christmas presents this year.

I wonder what Josh Connerly was thinking… he could have been going to the CFP.

Man, I’m just really proud of this team

I’m so happy for these guys, especially for all the ones who decided to come back just so they could have a chance to be in this position, knowing nothing was guaranteed. Coach Grubb, J-Mac, Odunze, Penix, Polk, ZTF, Trice… all those announcements they made 11 months ago made this possible.

While there were many great performances out there last night, McMillan’s complete return to the lineup was the difference maker. He is so consistent and takes pressure away from the other receivers to elevate the entire offense. This was the team we started the season with.

Sad to see the Pac12 end but what a fantastic ending! Our Huskies the final champion! It’s like a storybook ending to finish out on top. And Christian - you are not done yet. I’m sure you really enjoyed writing this piece (it bleeds through in your writing) but there is more to come!!!

"That's Marcus Peters! That's Marcus Peters!" Hilarious and awesome. Great story Christian! Can't wait to read more tomorrow.

Too bad it had to be him and not someone that is a better Husky. Actually surprised Peters was there.

One of the really positive things about Petersen is the way they didn’t write Peter’s off, they kept him involved and had him at their pro day and told NFL scouts positive things about him.

Expand full comment

The fact it WAS Marcus Peters is what makes it more interesting.

Peters was just waived by his NFL team! So I guess that he had time on his hands to burn. Among others Kelsey Plum was on the sidelines.

Marcus Peters & Kelsey Plum, two great Huskies and very different ends of the personality spectrum. I want to believe the best of people, and I hope Peters showing up indicates an increased willingness to at least be associated with the program, if not publicly support it - that just doesn't seem to be his thing, and I can respect that. I would just be happy to know that he feels like he has a home here.

Reviewing the tape, DT Faatui Tuitele (6"3 317) stood out for me. A ballyhooed Honolulu recruit seemingly made sluggish by injuries, Tuitele came to life against the Ducks. He didn't make a lot of signature plays, but his energy upgrade made our D-line look playoff worthy for the first time. Very, very happy for him.

I saw flashes of that kind of play from him in the Apple Cup. I was pretty surprised just to see him getting much playing time.

I saw some of the same things that you did with Tuitele - very pleased to see it! I didn't realize until I looked it up that he has another year of eligibility.

I’m enjoying every minute of this. Who knows if it will ever happen again. So Proud of the team.

If we lock-in with DeBoer and let him pick his staff and their salaries, I know it will happen again... 🔥

Expand full comment

That is going to happen. The new deal could be announced as early as next week. KDB is getting a very large bag at this point - numbers that I once thought the UW would never go to for a football coach. But DeBoer is absolutely worth the money, he is a very special coach and he has incredible plans for the future of UW football.

Morgan getting a promotion and raise would seem to make it pretty clear the extension is basically done.

Beating the Ducks under any circumstances is great but beating them as a 9 point underdog on a National stage for the last conference championship and a future trip to the final 4 of college football is glorious. A great team with determination and resilience we are all so proud of. And coaching and believing matters! Ecstasy without any substance abuse.

Of all the games I’ve traveled to in recent years, this was up there as the best experience I’ve had yet. What an amazing team, program and fanbase. Thank you for capturing what it was like for the people who weren’t there. I woke up smiling from my hotel bed and I can’t believe how special this season has been so far.

Yes, what an atmosphere in Allegiant Stadium last night. Have been fortunate to attend many great sporting events, but this was the best ever. Hearts were racing! Go Dawgs !
