Another way to look at the Cal game is that the last time UW had a team as good as we think this team is, we blew the barn doors off Cal on the road 66-27.
The Cal curse shouldn’t matter for a truly elite team.
My wife and I stayed till the end of the lightning game as well. My most vivid memory of the play on the field is the last gasp effort by Washington to score. A Cal defensive player made it a point to get a good hard lick on Jacob Eason. That’s football. Thanks for a wonderful back-and-forth conversation between the two of you. It’s a fun listen for this retired fellow (those are two of my granddaughters pictured with me in my emoji). This morning, it was over eggs and coffee before I step outside to get some yard work done on this first day of fall. I was a student at UW when Don James took over for Jim Owens. Lots of memories, mostly good. I came away from UW with a degree and a wife, and still have both. Huskies by 30. Grubb and Penix will have their defense running in circles.
Ian's question/statement is exactly what I have been thinking all week. "No stupid Cal stuff"
I couldn't really remember last year's game, probably because the Huskies won and it was only moderately stupid. So I went back and checked. Cal had the ball on the 50 with 1 min left down 7. So even though they weren't able to make the game deeply stupid, they were trying. Bad Cal! No stupid this year.
And like Danny, I stayed to the end of the lightning game. Though I have much less positive memories. The lightning show part was kind of cool though.
(Sorry, meant to post that on the "Home and Home" piece)
I suggest to Danny that he think of the DeBoer/Grubb offense as the next revolution in offensive football since Chip Kelly/Marcus Mariota RPO circa 2011. At the moment it's undefendable, at least with Michael Penix Jr. at the controls.
