Wonderful, as ever. The G. Hatchett section sparked a question I've had... Are offensive linemen less likely to enter the transfer? It seems like we hear far less about that particular position group in/out of the portal than most others. Or are there plenty and we just tend to hear more about other positions? Or is it just early and I need more coffee?

I don't have any data to support this, but it sure seems that way, doesn't it? I would guess the reason is twofold: more guys get to play at a time, and every player at that position knows it's likely going to be a couple seasons before he gets on the field, so you don't have as many guys jumping in the portal when it doesn't work out their first couple years. There are exceptions, but it seems most of the OL transfers you hear about are established, veteran players looking to upgrade programs for their final season or two.

Good question and probably true. Maybe because the lines get rotated more often. RBa only see 2 or 3 play significantly and WR 4 or 5.

Any bets on who will be starting at quarterback?

I tend to value talent over experience. After playing last year and going through spring and fall camp this year, I'm guessing Hatchett will go to the front of the line, just like Rosengarten did. But who knows?

Great stuff as always - So excited to see some cornerback coverage emerge, lots of great options. I wonder if either of the freshman CB's will redshirt or if they are just too good?

I'm not sure spring is where we are going to see definite lines in the sand for our DB group, but it will go a long way to setting up fall practice rotations. Our outside corners seem to be on an island a little more. Not as much underneath zone as we saw previously. I'm looking forward to seeing how these guys can stay in phase and make plays on the ball.

How many players need to leave to get to the maximum scholarship limit? Who's most likely to transfer out after spring? I would think a couple RBs.

Yes, three is correct, with 88 scholarships committed at present. I don't like to guess on specific players when it comes to attrition. Don't think it's fair. But the numbers at running back do present something of a conundrum.

Ya I get it..should have phrased it as what position group do you think we would lose players. Mine would be as we said RBs and then WRs. Seem to be the 2 that have the most crowded rooms and those players are usually the most anxious to play right away.

My understanding is the current count is 3 over the maximum.

From my vantage point on a couch, it's hard to imagine that Hatchett won't start ahead of Kalepo and/or Buelow.

They have more experience, so they have the advantage. But they have to be able to use that experience properly to get starts. This offensive system seems to be a little easier for the O linemen to grasp and perform, so Kalepo and Buelow might do well. If Hatchett is going to take one of those guard spots, he has all spring and the first half of August to get it from them. The best part of this is we have talented depth in case someone gets hurt.

I would think he would have to be starting in the spring to pass them.

My buddies and I are planning to attend the game at OSU this season. I've never been to Corvallis. Depending on kickoff time we might stay both nights. Any advice on stuff to do, places to eat, etc? Thanks!
