SEATTLE — In years past, an Apple Cup victory might sustain the winning team through an entire offseason, while the loser was left to stew. There might have been a bowl game after it, sure, but only on rare occasions has either team needed to regroup for another game the following weekend.
The Washington Huskies certainly have never hosted Northwestern seven days after their rivalry game.
“It’s our job to be ready for that game and never let a team beat us twice,” coach Jedd Fisch said.
Washington State’s 24-19 victory in Saturday’s Apple Cup marked UW’s first regular-season defeat since Arizona State on Oct. 8, 2022.
The Huskies responded to that loss by winning their next 21 games.
