SEATTLE — First, Quaid Carr had to wait.
He committed to San Diego State in May 2024, months before his senior season at Anaheim (Calif.) Servite, where he was eventually named Trinity League Male Athlete of the Year.
Scottie Graham developed a good relationship with the three-star tailback and track star, but after Julian McMahan committed to UW that March, Washington’s running backs coach told Carr there was no room at that time to take another tailback.
“I was like, ‘dang,’” Carr said. “But I was still committed to SDSU, and I was like, ‘OK, I’m going to just see it through.’”
They kept in touch, and one day, Graham told him: “I’m going to come get you back.” That triggered an official visit in November of that year, for Washington’s 31-19 victory over UCLA. It was Carr’s first time on campus, and “I fell in love (at) first sight. It was amazing. I loved the atmosphere. It was a blackout game, nice and cold, and they put a beating to UCLA.”
Jonah Coleman rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns that night, and a freshman Demond Williams Jr. replaced Will Rogers at quarterback in the second half to help turn a tight game into a comfortable victory.
Carr decommitted from SDSU and flipped to UW three days later.
