SEATTLE — Washington hopes to get Landen Hatchett back for its Big Ten opener, though coach Jedd Fisch spoke with something less than certainty about the fourth-year center’s status.
Hatchett, a returning starter and team captain, hasn’t played since Washington’s Nov. 8 game at Wisconsin last season, after breaking his right wrist in UW’s Oct. 25 win against Illinois. He underwent surgery in early December and wasn’t able to participate in spring practices or much of training camp as he awaited clearance to return to full contact.
It sounds like he’s still waiting. It became apparent by late August that Hatchett likely wouldn’t make it back by the season opener, but Fisch said at the time that “I do expect him to play in September.”
Fisch seemed less certain on Monday, ahead of UW’s 8 p.m. Saturday conference opener against Minnesota, the Huskies’ final game this month.
