SEATTLE — The Washington Huskies might have a different starting quarterback for the first time since November 2024 when they take the field at Purdue on Friday night.
Jedd Fisch stopped short of ruling Demond Williams Jr. out of the game during his Monday press conference. But as the third-year quarterback recovers from what Fisch described as a “significant rib injury” sustained late in the first half of UW’s 41-24 loss to Iowa, it sounds more likely that Elijah Brown will make his first start for the Huskies since transferring from Stanford during the offseason.
“I’m not under the impression that I think (Williams) will be playing this week, based upon where he’s at physically,” Fisch said. “But I don’t want to predict the medical future, either. We still have four days before we’ll have to make that decision. Those injuries are ones in which you have to be able to play through it, you have to be able to have range of motion, you have to be able to have zip on the ball, you have to be able to do a lot of things to protect himself, if we were to play him.”
Brown will take the No. 1 reps at Monday’s practice, Fisch said, and “there would have to be a pretty significant change for anything to change there.”
