I would find it hilarious if the Pac 12 announced a media rights deal with more dollars per school than the Big 12 during their media days, which started today.
This is a stretch... but could the writer’s strike (and possible actor’s strike) help the PAC12/10 get a better media deal (by putting a higher premium on the available content, ie sports)?
As a Big XII'er (Iowa State fan), I'd still like the Pac to stay together as it's been since I started watching football in the mid-60's. However, I'd like the Pac apologists (Jon Wilner, I'm looking at you) and Kliavkoff to eat a bit of crow with a substandard payout if that materializes.
Ever since a deal failed to materialize during the week of the men’s basketball tournament (which was like the third or fourth false start), my prediction has been that a deal will never materialize that satisfies all 10 members, at which point the conference will fracture and the schools will disperse to different conferences. Nothing that’s happened subsequently has convinced me otherwise.
Thank you for that well written article christian. You mentioned in I heard many times before this 31.7 million figure and I've been curious and have asked before how does that amount stack up to what the Pac-12 schools are getting right now. 'Fairly flat' seems to indicate about the same? That would be crazy to me thinking that any new deal would mean more money.
Clearly something has gone amiss in the negotiations, because all the comments from the presidents and AD’s were the type they would only make if something was imminent. Likewise, San Diego State seemed to have thought so as well.
Here’s what I don’t get: why are they negotiating TV rights before expansion? It’s highly unlikely the per school number they would announce now would exceed the Big 12, without the SMU/Dallas and San Diego markets.
Unfortunately everything talked about is just a blah blah blah thing. Kinda of a wake me when it's over thing. But unless they have an announcement I divvy if kliavkoff says anything. Like last year he doesn't even take the podium.

I won't love watching UW vs SMU/SDSU on the CW in October

He took the podium at media day last year. You might be thinking of the Pac-12 men's basketball tournament, where he did not speak.
Oh ok
The longer this goes, the more worried I get. Who has Mr. Petitti on speed dial?
Who?
