SEATTLE — Before Landen Hatchett hits a single blocking sled this August, he might find himself executing a block or two on social media.

Washington held a ceremony on Monday to distribute a pair of commemorative rings to each member of last year’s team — one for winning the Pac-12, another for winning the Sugar Bowl. Hatchett posted a photo from the event, the jewelry positioned on his right hand, alongside another Huskies o-lineman. At least one online observer assumed the other gentleman must have been Geirean Hatchett — Landen’s older brother who transferred to Oklahoma back in January — and expressed displeasure that he had been allowed back in the building.

Except … ah … that fellow in the picture goes by the name Gaard, as in Memmelaar, as in one of UW’s likely starting guards come Aug. 31.

Memmelaar will compete for that honor, anyway, just as Hatchett hopes to start at center, though both players are on the tail end of recovering from major injuries that kept them out of spring practices. UW coach Jedd Fisch said again Tuesday at the team’s pre-camp media day that he’s hopeful both players will be available for the Huskies’ opener against Weber State.

Speaking to reporters for the first time since tearing his ACL during a December practice, Hatchett said he’s done everything he can to be ready when the Huskies need him.
