SEATTLE — Pat Chun might have been Washington’s athletic director six months ago — or at least a strong candidate to replace Jen Cohen — if not for the timing of the search.

And if he hadn’t been waiting on a different opening in the Big Ten.

Chun, introduced as UW’s new AD on Thursday morning, predictably faced multiple questions about how he could leave Washington State to work for its rival, particularly after UW left WSU behind during the Pac-12’s realignment saga.

I also wanted to know whether Chun considered the opening after Cohen was hired by USC in August, and whether Washington, which eventually hired Troy Dannen in October, considered Chun at the time.

If he’s the right guy now, why wasn’t he then?

It sounds like UW was interested, raw as those realignment emotions might have been.
