SEATTLE — Rylon Dillard-Allen crashed into Ansu Sanoe, preventing the freshman tailback from crossing the goal line on the final 11-on-11 rep of Washington’s Saturday scrimmage, sparking a wild celebration by his defensive teammates on the visitor’s sideline at Husky Stadium.
It was the kind of hit you’ve come to expect from the second-year player nicknamed Batman — and, in the longer view, the kind of play you might expect more generally from UW’s defense, a group that has proven through the first eight days of training camp that it won’t be scored upon easily.
The Huskies ran about 125 plays during their first scrimmage of camp, coach Jedd Fisch said, before a crowd of about 150 on a picturesque evening by the water. About 60 or 70 of those plays featured live tackling, Fisch said, including the one Dillard-Allen ended with a goal-line stand.
“I love how fast our linebackers play. I love how fast our safeties play,” Fisch said. “I think that RDA and Alex (McLaughlin) are two of the best that I’ve been around, and the last three safeties we had at the last spot are all drafted and playing in the NFL right now.”
