SEATTLE — Consecutive touchdown passes punctuated — and ended — the fifth practice of Washington’s preseason training camp.
The first came when quarterback Dash Beierly found freshman receiver Trez Davis for a 19-yard score. The second, with the ball placed at the plus-25 as part of this practice-ending red-zone period, came when Demond Williams Jr. targeted the receiver he might look to more often than anybody this season.
Second-year receiver Dezmen Roebuck created just enough separation from nickel back Rahshawn Clark, then turned his body to snag Williams’ throw in bounds before landing in the front left corner of Husky Stadium’s west end zone.
It was Roebuck doing what he does best: a sharp route, a quick jab to create space and the body positioning necessary to catch and score in one motion.
“That guy’s elite,” Williams said. “He goes up and gets it with the best of them. For a guy of his stature, it’s super impressive. The way he maneuvers his body during catches is super impressive.”
It was a strong response for the No. 1 offense, after Jacob Manu combined with Elinneus Davis to end their previous series with a “sack” of Williams. The QB-receiver duo also connected for about a 15-yard score earlier in the day.
Here’s what else to know about Tuesday's practice, including some thoughts from coach Jedd Fisch.
