SEATTLE — Fifteen high-school prospects signed national letters of intent with the Washington Huskies on Wednesday. It’s a defense-heavy class, with nine players on that side of the ball, and four of them along the line of scrimmage. Per the 247Sports Composite, the class includes six four-star recruits — a quarterback, an offensive lineman, a receiver, an edge rusher and two safeties — and there is one prospect committed to UW who still hasn’t signed.

Yet it feels as if the Huskies’ current circumstances — and college football’s changing roster-construction practices — combine to diminish whatever magnitude fans might otherwise assign to the beginning of the early signing period. 

This year, there are more pressing matters.
