SEATTLE — The sixth practice of Washington training camp was also the longest, and introduced full pads — and some live tackling — for the first time this summer.

Those factors — combined with warm(-ish) weather — had safeties coach Taylor Mays telling his players afterward that it “felt very game-like.”

“It felt kind of like Michigan last year,” Mays said after UW practiced for more than two hours and 40 minutes. “I was telling these guys that we get in these situations where it’s live bullets, we need to be able to fall back on our technique, and be able to fall back on the coaching points and just do our job.

“Being out here today, we did some things well. But then there’s just so much room for improvement coming off this first practice. But it’s the first practice in full pads, so I would expect it to be better going forward.”
