Apologies for the over-communication, but I figure that's better than the other way around.
If you are receiving this newsletter (or reading it on the web), that means we made it through the other side of On Montlake's transition from Substack to Ghost. While Say Who, Say Pod still will be hosted on Substack, that's a back-end detail you don't need to worry about. All communications will come from this address.
Give the new site a look. It's far from finished — I have a few ideas for more standalone pages in the navigation menu — but you should be able to get a good sense for the general feel of things. Let me know of any bugs you encounter.
Ghost’s newsletter deliverability is very strong, but to improve the odds that it lands in the right part of your inbox, go ahead and add on-montlake@ghost.io to your contact list (do not send mail to this address; it isn’t set up for that). Do me a favor and shoot a quick reply to this email. This will help with deliverability, too.
From here, I will copy-paste the communication I sent earlier today from my Substack address, just to reiterate the basics:
Join the On Montlake community with a paid subscription.
- If you prefer to read on the web at onmontlake.com, simply click “sign in” in the upper right corner, then enter the email address you used to subscribe. This will send both a login link and a login code to your email. Use either to login, and you’re good to go. You can then customize your profile, including your username, and begin commenting. This also is where you can manage your payment information and other account settings.
- For the three of you who purchased your subscription directly in the Substack iOS app, PLEASE CANCEL IT as soon as possible. I can’t control that on my end, and yours are the (very) few subscriptions that can’t port over. I’ve comped your access through the end of your current term, but you must cancel your subscription to avoid continued billing. Please contact me with any questions. If this is you, I’ve also contacted you directly, and will again. To continue paid access, you must cancel and then sign up again. (If there is any confusion as to whether this is you, please reach out.)
- If you are the owner of a group subscription, your paid subscription ported over, and the members of your group will have access through the end of their term. However, there is no group subscription option on Ghost, so the only subscription set to autorenew is the group parent — meaning if the other folks in your group want to continue reading beyond the current term, they’ll need to sign up on their own. I’ll also contact you individually on this matter.
- Gift subscriptions are not offered as a native feature in Ghost, but I’ve already identified an integration that should make it simple for you to purchase gifts. Be on the lookout for that. (All current gift subscriptions ported over with access through the current term.)
- A few of you have expressed interest in an audio option for listening to stories, like Substack offers. No promises on a timeline, but I’m working on this, too.
- If you’re a paid subscriber and are interested in joining the new Discord chat server, please reply to this email or shoot me a note at onmontlakeuw@gmail.com.
- Please email me at that address with any questions whatsoever, and, as always, thanks so much for your support.
