I suppose it would have been too dangerous for Rome's health for this story to be out there before the Pac 12 championship. But it's also a shame that Biletnikoff voters didn't fully understand what an incredible feat that Rome accomplished this year - comparable numbers to the other finalists, certainly bigger and more athletic catches, and a half a season with this injury that would have sidelined almost any other player. Astonishing. Legendary.

If Odunze and Penix were credited for all the pass interference calls they drew this year, they BOTH would’ve been at the Heisman ceremony and one of them would’ve won.

Thank you, Rome, for fighting through that injury and giving all us fans such an amazing season... 💜💛

Great article! It's amazing it was kept out of the media for this long. So glad Rome is able to play and thrive!

Kid didn’t miss a beat and only makes his performance against Oregon that much more iconic. Thanks Christian

This is an amazing testament to grit. And the belief in one’s self for the greater good. The team. Culture always will out. But some people have to lead by example to get the buy-in to create the culture. So impressed with Mr. Udunze. As a football player and a man.

Go Dawgs!

I know a few of you were thinking of something similar, but didn’t write it, but I’ll be Mr. Pun this time.

Rome obviously wasn’t built in a day, and isn’t burning, he’s burning everything else down in his wake. He’s the best we’ve had since Reggie.

John Ross wasn’t too bad, either!

Man this a great story Christian. I remember watching that play live and noticing the wince and thinking "I don't think that's minor." What a testament to Rome's endurance, grit, and heart. I would love to hear JPolk is doing right now after the monster start, dip, and resurgence in th P12 championship game. He's super important to our success as well. Those 4-5 catches per game from him are usually HUGE in determining the outcome. In fact I'm super excited for our team to have this month break. I'd wager no other team is coming into the playoffs more banged up then we are top to bottom. They'll get the best version of the Dawgs and I'll take those odds any day.

What a crazy tolerance for pain, and sheer determination to play. Awe-inspiring.

Now, imagine somebody suffered that injury next year while playing at Rutgers... that's a bit longer of a drive.

Odunze is one tough kid. Here he was injured and Penix was sick during the Oregon game, and they paired-up for the winning TD. We Husky fans are witnessing something special this season.
